| Gal 5:16 | The OT and Judaism spoke of "walking" in the way of the Lord, in righteousness, in the law, etc. (e.g., Lev 26:3); it meant "behaving" in these ways. Jewish teachers described their moral laws derived from the OT law as halakah, which literaly means "walking." Although this expression was not common in Greek, Paul's readers (especially those becoming more acquainted with Judaism) would understand his point. He may allude her to Eze 36:27: when God put his Spirit in his people in the end time, they would walk ina ll his commandments, even though they had fialed to keep the law's righteousness in their own strength. |

The worthy walk teaching comes as part of the apostolic teaching known as the didache. The apostles preached the Gospel, taught us about the life, death and resurrection, and this is known as the kerygma, the preaching. Once one believes in Christ as their Lord and Savior, the apostles also taught us how to live, a moral code that Christians should follow. This superset (not excluding the kerygma), is known as the didache. In many of the epistles, there is a distinct section where the apostles clarify doctrine and distortion of the kerygma, and then break move into a section on how to live – the didache. |

Application: We need to learn and follow the didache. Not for our
justification, but it is important as believers to “fall in line” and be
led by the Holy Spirit. We have declared Christ our Lord and God, so
we need to be obedient and fall in line and follow Him, and not continue
to be obedient to our flesh. It is a certainty that the flesh has
been crucified, and we need to be led by the Spirit and put the flesh
behind us, both for living in community with other Christians, and for
our witness to the world as to the power of our new, worthy walk.
